Generations and cultures intertwined, a spark of real-life magic – a moment I captured through my lens. I had been traveling the world with my camera, searching for glimpses of happiness and ways to rediscover myself in my thirties – merging my wild, nature-loving childhood self with the grown-up version of me.

I had seen Jah Love, the captivating older man, sitting in his tent as crickets chirped, handcrafting jewelry from an assortment of coins in Byron Bay, Australia. He had said:
“You can take a photo only if you come to Bangalow next Saturday.”

The place was completely unknown to me, but I replied, “See you there.” A week later, I boarded the slow morning bus, feeling a flutter of uncertainty – would he really be there? In that small town of about 1,500 people.

I finally found him at the marketplace, beside an old-fashioned carousel. His expression, seeing that I had truly arrived, was filled with surprise, joy, and a hint of fear. Laughing friends and a little boy peering through a magnifying glass added childlike delight to the scene. I, a Northern European woman, had found a magical moment by following intuition into the unknown – laughter through the magnifying glass.

Sukupolvet ja kulttuurit limittyivät, aito elämän taika – hetki, jonka sain vangittua kameralleni. Olin matkustanut maailmaa ympäri kamerani kanssa, etsien näkökulmia onnellisuuteen ja tapoja löytää uudelleen itseni kolmekymppisenä – yhdistäen lapsuuteni villin, luonnonläheisen minän ja aikuiseksi kehittyneen version itsestäni.

Olin nähnyt Jah Loven, kiehtovan vanhemman miehen, istumassa teltassaan heinäsirkkojen sirittäessä ja valmistamassa käsin koruja erilaisista kolikoista Byron Bayssä, Australiassa. Hän oli sanonut:
“Saat ottaa kuvan vain, jos tulet viikon päästä lauantaina Bangalowiin.”

Paikka oli minulle täysin tuntematon, mutta sanoin: “Siellä nähdään.” Viikkoa myöhemmin hyppäsin hitaaseen aamuiseen bussiin, tuntien pientä epävarmuutta – olisiko hän todella siellä? Tuossa pienessä, noin 1500 asukkaan kylässä.

Löysin hänet lopulta marketplace-alueelta, vanhanaikaisen karusellin kupeesta. Hänen ilmeensä, nähdessään että olin todella saapunut, oli täynnä hämmästystä, iloa ja pientä pelkoa. Ympärillä nauravat ystävät ja pieni poika, joka kurkisti suurennuslasin läpi, lisäsivät hetkeen lapsenomaisen riemun. Minä, Pohjois-Euroopan nainen, olin löytänyt taianomaisen hetken heittäytyessäni intuition perässä tuntemattomaan – nauru suurennuslasin alla.
